The T. A. Marryshow Community College (TAMCC), in collaboration with Nova Scotia Community College (NSCC), successfully hosted the 2026 Sustainable Horizons Programme from May 4–8, 2026, in Grenada.
The week-long initiative brought together students and faculty from both institutions for a rich programme of academic exchange, experiential learning, and cultural engagement focused on sustainability and environmental responsibility.
The programme formed part of the longstanding partnership between TAMCC and NSCC, which began in 2012 and has continued to strengthen technical and vocational education, cultural exchange, and sustainable development initiatives between Grenada and Nova Scotia. Over the years, the collaboration has created meaningful opportunities for students and faculty through joint research, training, and experiential learning activities.
Throughout the week, participants explored key themes related to renewable energy, marine conservation, sustainable tourism, agriculture, food systems, and environmental innovation. Activities combined classroom engagement, presentations, site visits, and collaborative student projects designed to deepen participants’ understanding of sustainable development practices while promoting intercultural learning and collaboration.
The programme officially commenced on Monday, May 4, 2026, at the Hospitality Hall, TAMCC, where participants were welcomed by representatives of the College and programme coordinators.
Students and faculty participated in several educational and cultural activities across Grenada, including:
- Presentations on sustainability and Grenadian history,
- Visits to Eco-Solutions to explore solar energy, recycling, and electronic vehicles,
- Tours of the House of Chocolate and sustainable agriculture initiatives at Mt. Parnassus,
- Educational visits to the River Antoine Estate Rum Distillery, Belmont Estate, and Grenlec’s solar energy facility,
- Marine conservation activities at the Grenada Underwater Sculpture Park, and
- Student presentations and group discussions on sustainability-related challenges and solutions.
A highlight of the programme was the presentation delivered by Dr. Nicole Phillip, who shared insights into Grenadian history and culture with participants.
The programme also encouraged students to examine the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) within the Grenadian context and propose innovative solutions to contemporary environmental and social challenges.
Mrs. Lorin Peters-Alexander, Dean of the School of Continuing Education at TAMCC and Project Manager for the initiative, expressed appreciation to all partners, facilitators, and participants for contributing to the success of the programme.
She noted that the initiative provided students with valuable opportunities to engage directly with real-world sustainability challenges while building practical skills, professional networks, and cross-cultural understanding.
TAMCC also extended sincere appreciation to Zoran Kondali and the NSCC delegation for their continued partnership and commitment to international collaboration and sustainable development education.
The College looks forward to continuing and strengthening this important partnership in the years ahead.
