TAMCC Library’s 7th Gilda Campos Outreach Program

On Wednesday, November 5th, members of the TAMCC Library staff embarked on the Library’s 7th Outreach Program, officially known as the Gilda Campos Outreach Program: TAMCC Library.

This initiative is named in honor of the late Gilda Campos, who served as Librarian for 25 years and first conceptualized the outreach program. Although the idea was born during her tenure, it was brought to life following her passing in July 2022. The program was formally launched during Library Week 2023 (March) and continues to embody her vision of sharing the joy of reading and learning with the wider community.

The outreach visits typically include schools, senior citizens’ homes, and children’s homes, offering engaging reading sessions, quizzes, and other interactive activities such as singing, games, and motivational talks.

This upcoming visit will take the team to the St. George’s Methodist School in Queen’s Park. The session will feature a reading of the local children’s book Rebecca’s Dolls by its author, Suelin Low Chew Tung, who is also an Art Instructor at TAMCC. This marks the first time that the author herself will accompany the Library staff on an outreach visit—a special highlight that has generated great excitement at the school.

Following the reading, the Library team will conduct a quiz based on the story, and TAMCC stationery items will be awarded to students who answer correctly. Additionally, copies of Rebecca’s Dolls will be presented to the school by Ms. Low Chew Tung, further enriching their literary resources.

Through this outreach, the Library continues to honor Gilda Campos’ legacy by inspiring a love for reading, creativity, and community engagement among young learners.
