Students of the T. A. Marryshow Community College from Carriacou and Petite Martinique benefitted from the Government of Grenada’s Education Care Package Distribution following the passage of Hurricane Beryl in July. A short ceremony was held at the VIP Room, Kirani James Athletic Stadium on September 18, 2024.
The Education Care Packages covers $2000 for accommodation, meals and transportation; $500 for uniforms and $1200 for textbooks for the first months installment. Additionally, each student will receive a laptop. From the second month, students will only receive the $2000 monthly payment to cover living expenses, given that uniforms and textbooks will have already been covered in the initial payment. The initial care packages distributed will be in excess of $222, 000. More than $1.5 million will be disbursed over the next 10 months for this school year.
Approximately 80 students from Carriacou and Petite Martinique will receive this education care package. This will assist in the uninterrupted flow of their educational journey at the T.A. Marryshow Community College and the New Life Organisation. This initiative is a post-Hurricane Beryl education sector response to support students from Carriacou and Petite Martinique, who have had to relocate to Grenada to begin or continue studies.
TAMCC extends appreciation to Prime Minister Hon. Dickon Mitchell, Minister for Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs and Local Government Hon. Tevin Andrews, Minister for Education Sen. the Hon. David Andrew and sponsors of the initiative: Laluna Boutique Hotel and Villas, Sandals Grenada and CPL T20 Cricket for ensuring our students are given the best opportunity to continue their academic journey in the face of adversity.
