TAMCC Students Participate in Prestigious International Chess Competition

Four TAMCC students will represent Grenada at the 45th Chess Olympiad in Budapest, Hungary, from September 10th – 23rd, 2024. Students Renniel Gilbert, Tyler Thomas, Rockisha Flanders and Bernel Chitan – are among the ten selectees to represent Grenada at the biennial competition.

This is a historical moment as it is the first time Grenada is being represented at a Chess Olympiad. Over 2500 players from 200 countries are expected to attend the Budapest Olympiad. This esteemed event will gather chess prodigies from around the globe, offering them a platform to compete against the best and brightest in a total of eleven rounds.

“It’s a lot of joy for Grenada this being the first time we have entered a chess tournament. Everything is up from here,” said Mr. Kwabena Amen, Community Service Coordinator at TAMCC and the lead for the Grenada Chess Federation’s committee responsible for Chess in schools and communities. “They will gain important experiences and return home to help achieve the objective of bringing chess to every secondary and primary school in Grenada. The fact that Grenada was able to mobilise the resources to bring everything together is great for community.”

TAMCC wishes the students the best of luck as they embark on this exciting adventure, and we look forward to hearing about their accomplishments on the international stage.
